The Brazilian Agriculture Ministry has officially recognized the Cocoa Sustainability Curriculum as a program that promotes agricultural best practices.

The program was developed as part of the World Cocoa Foundation’s CocoaAction initiative, which aims to promote sustainability in the Brazilian cocoa production chain, in partnership with various organizations, including Fundo Vale, in the context of its 2030 Forest Goal. The Cocoa Sustainability Curriculum lists minimum requirements for implementing agricultural best practices, focusing on encouraging the production of safe and good quality food, promoting sustainable production practices and helping improve rural people’s quality of life.

“This is an important step for the progress of sustainability in the production chain, stimulating cocoa production in a way that preserves the environment, boosts farmers’ income and improves rural people’s lives,”

Vitor Stella, a consultant at CocoaAction Brasil.

The Cocoa Sustainability Curriculum provides a guide to best practices in cocoa growing. This is the first farming production chain in Brazil to have a program of this kind recognized by the Agriculture Ministry.

Fundo Vale is supporting this initiative in the context of Vale’s 2030 Forest Goal, which is focusing on several crops, including cocoa. “As well as restoring 100,000 hectares of habitat in a productive way, we want to help promote this sector,” says Fundo Vale’s Bia Marchiori, who is tracking the Forest Goal’s achievement.
