The market for biodiversity credits is one of the topics to be discussed by private sector organizations at the event

In collaboration with paper company Suzano’s Ecofuturo Institute, the Votorantim Reserves and the Port of Açu’s Caruara Reserve, Fundo Vale and Vale Natural Reserve are holding a meeting to commemorate International Biodiversity Day. The free event will take place on the morning of May 22, at Cubo Itaú – one of Latin America’s leading innovation hubs, based in São Paulo.

The main objective of the meeting is to discuss and share experiences on private sector strategies for biodiversity conservation and sustainable development, in line with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

The event will include debates on the role of the private sector in developing applicable and replicable conservation solutions. “Our aim is to facilitate an effective exchange of experiences to strengthen concrete commitments in favor of biodiversity,” explains Rodrigo Araújo of Fundo Vale’s Business Promotion and Sustainable Investment Area.

“International Biodiversity Day is a call to action and shared responsibility. It’s an opportunity to reflect on the role of the private sector in advancing global biodiversity and sustainable development goals,” adds Natalia Paes of Vale Natural Reserve’s Natural Resources and Protected Areas Division.

Event agenda:

  • Why Does Today Matter? A Reflection on International Biodiversity Day – Fábio Scarano (Rio de Janeiro Federal University)

About the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework

The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework was adopted at the 15th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15), which took place in 2022 in Montreal, Canada. It is an international strategic plan with four broad goals to be achieved by 2050, with a focus on the health of ecosystems and species. The agreement also includes 23 specific targets to be attained by 2030, such as conserving 30% of land, sea and inland waters, restoring 30% of ecosystems degraded by human action, conserving endangered species and halving the introduction of invasive species.
