Partnership
with BNDES to generate large-scale positive social and environmental
impacts
On
November 10, at the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference,
COP26, Vale, through Fundo Vale, joined the Living Forest Initiative,
launched by Brazil’s national development bank, BNDES. The goal is to
reforest between 16,000 and 33,000 hectares with native species and
biodiversity in the next seven years. To achieve this, financial support
will be given to reforestation projects involving native species and
agroforestry systems in several Brazilian biomes. Fundo Vale already has
expertise in this area due to its Voluntary Forest
Commitment.

“Impact
Carbon” proposal, from philanthropy to venture
capital
This
unique, innovative and audacious project created by Fundo Vale to help
achieve Vale’s 2030 Forest Goal was the subject of an article published at
the end of October by Capital Reset. This strategy combines financial
returns with positive social and environmental impacts, in a virtuous
environmental, social and economic cycle that is unparalleled in Brazil. The
aim is to restore 100,000 hectares of degraded areas by investing in impact
businesses involving productive restoration models.

FIIMP2:
Publication about social and
environmental impact investments and
businesses
Between
2017 and 2020, Fundo Vale took part in
several discussions and other activities
carried out by Impact Foundations and
Institutes (FIIMP). The experience gained in
the last two years is set out in a new
publication called “A New Learning Journey
in Social and Environmental Impact
Investments and Businesses.” The report
describes the formation of FIIMP2, which was
focused on deepening connections with the
ecosystem’s dynamic agents – organizations
that support positive impact businesses – in
order to systematically record the group’s
experience between 2018 and 2020. It is
hoped that the report will help and inspire
other institutes, foundations and companies
on this path.
