Subject took center stage at Future of Food meeting in London, which brought together leaders to discuss a more resilient food system

Luís Fernando Laranja, founder and CEO of Caaporã Agrossilvipastoril, was among the participants at “Future of Food,” an international summit held by Economist Impact in London from February 1 to 10. The event brought together global leaders to discuss how to transform the food system into a more sustainable, climate-resilient model capable of feeding 10 billion people.

During the meeting, Laranja presented Caaporã’s experience with silvopastoral systems, showing how innovative practices can restore soil, increase biodiversity, capture carbon and maintain farmers’ competitiveness. By strategically integrating trees into cattle ranching areas, the company’s projects make it possible to triple stocking rates per hectare, increase animal weight gain by up to 50% and reduce the carbon footprint per kilogram of beef produced by more than 50%.

“Caaporã demonstrates that the sustainable transformation of crop and livestock farming is viable and strategic, positioning Brazil as a leader in solutions that combine productivity, social inclusion and ecosystem protection,” said Juliana Vilhena, strategy, management and impact manager at Fundo Vale, which leads the land restoration component of Vale’s 2030 Forest Goal, to which Caaporã is contributing as a partner.

The summit brought together executives, investors, researchers, innovators and public policymakers, fostering discussions on green financing, food supply chain resilience, waste reduction, low-impact agriculture and climate change adaptation.

“It was a great opportunity to engage with investors, entrepreneurs and scientists from different countries and discuss the enormous sustainability challenges facing agricultural and food systems. On our panel, we focused specifically on low-carbon cattle ranching and had the opportunity to present the significant potential of the production model we are developing in Brazil,” Laranja said.
