Workshop at the Amazon Bioeconomy and Innovation Park deepens cooperation between funders, government bodies and civil society around the forest restoration agenda

On May 6 and 7, the Regional Land Restoration Coordination Workshop, held at the Amazon Bioeconomy and Innovation Park in Belém, Pará, hosted discussions on challenges and opportunities for restoration in the Amazon, encouraging connections between initiatives operating in different regions of Pará, with a focus on the Lower Tapajós, Lower Xingu and Belém biodiversity hotspot regions. The discussions also addressed strategies to expand the implementation of actions across these regions and further develop initiatives aimed at the region’s sustainable development.

Liz Lacerda, sustainability analyst at Fundo Vale, joined a panel featuring funders, investors and representatives of the Amazon Investor Coalition, Banco do Brasil, the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), the Brazilian Environment and Climate Change Ministry and the World Resources Institute. The discussion brought together different perspectives on the role of organizations and financial instruments in building solutions capable of accelerating restoration in the Amazon.

“The workshop was an important space for advancing an integrated regional approach. It is through these meetings that we are able to build trust among stakeholders, identify synergies and structure joint actions to unlock restoration in high-priority areas of the Amazon,” said Lacerda.

The event was organized through a partnership between the Institute for Climate and Society (iCS), the Amazon Restoration Alliance, the Brazilian Environment and Climate Change Ministry and the Pará State Secretariat for Environment and Sustainability, with support from Fundo Vale.
