To celebrate Amazon Day, September 5, the Amazon at Home, Intact Forest program presented consumers with sustainable biodiversity products that are helping to protect the forest, generate income and work for the Amazon’s people and make the most of ancestral knowledge.

Month-long celebrations began with a campaign called “Biomass Just One Click Away,” run by online marketplace Mercado Livre, which offers around 900 products sustainably produced by 80 brands in the Amazon, Caatinga shrublands, Cerrado savanna and Atlantic Forest. “We want to combine knowledge of the forest, which generates wealth and environmental protection, with Mercado Livre’s marketing and logistics knowhow, to boost the positive impacts of these entrepreneurs, who in many cases are unknown to most Brazilians,” said Laura Motta, Mercado Livre’s senior sustainability manager.

In all, 27 brands took part in this campaign in September. They offer a wide range of products, from edible items such as jams, juices, chocolate, peppers, oils, butter and spirits to biocosmetics such as shampoos, conditioners and soaps. During the campaign, consumers were able to buy these products at Instituto Chão, a non-governmental organization in Vila Madalena, a bohemian neighborhood in São Paulo. The NGO held tastings and offered discounts on these products.

This initiative was part of the Amazon at Home, Intact Forest program, which is run by Climate Ventures and the Amazon Impact Accelerator (AMAZ), supported by Fundo Vale and other co-funders. Find out more at amazoniaemcasa.org.br.
