For every R$1 raised through a campaign encouraging Vale employees to purchase assistive devices, the company contributed an additional R$10, totaling R$1.1 million in donations

Residents of the Rio Gregório Extractive Reserve received donations of assistive devices, including glasses, crutches, canes, walkers, wheelchairs and shower chairs, through the Including Together campaign, an initiative led by the Vale Volunteer Network. For every R$1 raised through employee donations, Vale contributed an additional R$10, amplifying the campaign’s collective impact and bringing the total amount raised for purchasing the equipment to R$1.1 million. The devices were distributed across the areas served by the Together Against Poverty Program.

The funds raised, along with the procurement and distribution of the assistive devices, were managed by the Center for Health Promotion (Cedaps), an organization recognized for strengthening primary healthcare and social services. The initiative was also supported by Doare, a platform specializing in online fundraising technology, ensuring security, transparency and efficiency throughout every stage of the donation process.

Together Against Poverty in the Rio Gregório Extractive Reserve

The campaign was carried out as part of Together Against Poverty, a program coordinated by Vale and more than 30 partner organizations, including companies and nonprofits, with the goal of helping 500,000 people escape extreme poverty. The program uses the Multidimensional Poverty Index, a methodology developed by the University of Oxford, to identify and address deprivations related to income, education, health, nutrition and infrastructure.

Since 2024, the Rio Gregório Extractive Reserve has been included in the program through support from Fundo Vale in partnership with the Sustainable Amazon Foundation, in order to test solutions for people living in extreme poverty in forest regions. The reserve is a sustainable-use conservation area located in the municipality of Eirunepé, in southwestern Amazonas.

“The Rio Gregório Extractive Reserve is one of the most remote populated areas I have visited in the Amazon, where communities face longstanding logistical challenges that also limit access to public services and markets. With support from the Sustainable Amazon Foundation, a tailored action plan is being implemented to benefit around 250 families in the region, including improved access to healthcare and social protection, as well as better opportunities for the future. The positive changes these initiatives are bringing to these families are already visible,” explains Márcia Soares, Fundo Vale’s Amazon and partnerships manager.
